In recent years the night stamp has allowed members to fish both Carr Mill Dam and The Burgy Pond in the hours of darkness, but after some hard work from the committee we can now announce to you some new waters which will come with night fishing. These waters have now been added to St Helens Angling Associations already extensive portfolio and your new night membership will allow you to fish all of them during the hours of darkness, please see below the club rules on each water.

The Clegg

The Clegg will be a three-rod water, but we ask that members are mindful and respectful of the space they are using when other anglers are coming onto the bank to fish.

Taylor Park

Taylor Park will be a three-rod water and we ask that members do not fish along the wall on the footpath running anti clockwise from the Moxon St entrance. Anglers are also asked to be mindful of nesting birds from April to September and to stay five metres clear of any areas where birds may be nesting.

Leg ‘O Mutton Dam and The Paddock

Leg ‘O Mutton Dam and The Paddock will be two-rod waters and anglers are asked to be mindful of the houses opposite when fishing at night regarding The Paddock, with noise levels and disturbance to the residents close by. Given the size of each of these waters the club has devised a separate set of rulings concerning them both.

· 24 HOUR SESSIONS ONLY – Anglers must vacate the water after 24 hours fishing to free up the water for other members.

· FREEZER BAITS ONLY – Given the recent issues with the Leg ‘O Mutton Dam, the club have decided the use of shelf-life baits is to be banned on both waters. STABILISED BAITS MAY BE USED ON THE HAIR ONLY.

· NO HEAVY BAITING, INCLUDING SPOMBING AND SPODDING – Given the recent issues regarding Blue – Green Algae, the club have decided this approach will benefit the water and we ask that members respect this decision.

· These rules will be reviewed on an annual basis, dependent on any improvement and committee approval.

Colliers Moss

Colliers Moss will be a three-rod water and will follow the club’s general rulings regarding night fishing.

Monastery Dam

Monastery Dam will be a two-rod water and will follow the club’s general rulings regarding night fishing and anglers are reminded of the houses opposite with regards to noise levels and disturbance.

The Burgy Pond (Leech Pit)

The Burgy Pond will be a three-rod water and anglers are reminded of the no fishing areas along the high bank and underneath the power lines, along with fishing directly into snags in the bay behind the community centre situated on Chain Lane.

Carr Mill Dam

Carr Mill Dam is a three-rod water and will follow the general rulings regards night fishing, the club hosts two club matches per week and anglers are reminded of this.

· Monday club matches take place each week and anglers will be pegged around. The match organizer may come around to enquire about the length of your session and where possible, may ask if you will be leaving in the case of using the peg for the match. Good communication goes a long way and will benefit all anglers, respectively.

· Sunday Club matches will take place every week and anglers will need to vacate the chosen match pegs for 8.30am the morning of the match. There will be posts on the Facebook group pages 48 hours in advance and where possible, signs will be placed around the various entrances around the dam. Understand that this will be a weekly theme and that it is the members duty to be aware that they may need to vacate. Again, good communication is all that is needed and a simple post on the Facebook chat group before planning your trip will clarify any confusion. Should a post be missed or unseen these matches will be taking place. We all want to fish and must make the best of what we have. Dave Rigby is very approachable and where possible will try to avoid anyone fishing from the night before when pegging a match. The Feeder Masters events will follow the same process as the Sunday matches, but the matches will also take place on the Saturday as a two-day event and will also be posted over the Facebook pages prior

.

St Helens AA 2021 Night Card Applications

After having to abandon the previous method of issuing 2021's night card, we have now opted for a mail in application system for this year's card. The application form will need to be printed out, with all fields filled in and posted in the mail to the address on the form. You will need to provide one passport photo for your card to be processed and you will also need to sign the bottom of the form as this will be your agreement of accepting to abide by the club's rules when fishing at night, any applications that are not filled in correctly WILL NOT be processed. PLEASE FILL OUT ALL FIELDS IN ORDER FOR YOUR APPLICATION TO BE ACCEPTED.

Applications will be granted via email and once accepted, you will be emailed informing you of when you can make payment. This will be done via the club's website and you will need to use your name and permit number in the order notes as reference. The cards will be issued in batches of 20 and I stress that there is NO CAP ON NIGHT CARDS. Smaller batches will help us keep track of cards and ensure people aren't turning up when their card may not be there. This isn't the most ideal situation, but given the current circumstances this is about the safest way of doing it. If people have issues with things being done this way, don't complain. We're trying our best to get this done properly and any negative comments and moaning will just be deleted and slide you further down the list. Everyone that wants a card will get one, it may just take a little bit of time to get through them.

Newton tackle and Bait will be acting as a collection point, and once informed, members may go and collect their card but will need to provide this year's members permit in order to collect. Cards WILL NOT be issued unless the corresponding permit is shown. Given government guidelines on social distancing this is the most practical way of issuing and as Newton are operating a click and collect service, it would be an ideal opportunity to pick a few bits up while you're there and help a local business out at the same time ?

PLEASE ENSURE ALL APPLICATIONS ARE SENT VIA ROYAL MAIL. ANY RANDOM LETTERBOXING WILL RESULT IN YOUR APPLICATION BEING EATEN BY THE DOG ?

You can download the application link using Google Drive here:

Angling Trust Update

Following todays news from the Angling Trust, the clubs waters will now reopen. Anglers are reminded that travelling from out of town is strictly forbidden and that when on the bank, proper social distancing is adhered to. Anglers must vacate all waters before dark, and any members found breaking guidelines will be asked to leave and not return.
