River Severn Preston Boats and Shelton

Dear Members

For years St Helens Ramblers have held the fishing rights to these 2 stretches of water, and St Helens AA along with other local fishing clubs have had affiliated rights to fish these waters. Unfortunately St Helens Ramblers decided to relinquish the fishing rights to these 2 stretches, and gave the landlord agents official notice. The fishing rights where then put back onto the market, and St Helens AA applied, but unfortunately without success. The fishing rights have been passed over to a local angling club in Shrewsbury. The St Helens AA membership licences where printed in December, prior to us being aware of the situation, therefore the waters are still stipulated within the licence, and  will be removed for the next season.

Carp Lads Clean Out Peg 160

A big thanks to Roy Tickle and Chris Owen who today have been trying to sort out the snag problem on peg 160. Hopefully it’s been sorted now as this big concrete block was removed from 40-50 yards out. We think it’s been used to hold a buoy at some point and broke off, there was lots of line and feeders attached so hopefully the peg will now be clear.

   Thanks again now lads !

Healthy Fish Population at Sidings Lane

Dear Members

As part of our on going commitment to our members,  Sidings Lane was netted today in order for the Association to gain an insight into the current fish population of this picturesque little venue. Special thanks goes out to the more than helpful lads from the Environment Agency, who came out and carried out an excellent service, in a professional, organised and friendly manner,  for all their assistance, without whom we would never have got this work carried out. Thanks also to the members of the association who turned up and gave up their own time to assist in this project.

As you will see from the images below, the fish populations are excellent, and in exceptional condition. Its looking good for 2018.

New Water For 2018, River Dee, Ridleywood.

St Helens Angling Association have acquired over ¾ mile of fishing on the River Dee, located at Ridleywood. Its-y-Coed, just outside Wrexham. The stretch is known to contain a good head of Dace, Roach and Chub, with occasional Barbel to specimen size, and migratory fish in season. Can all anglers fishing this stretch, please adhere to the country side code? Ensure all gates remain closed, leave no litter, no fires and be considerate of the wildlife.

For access enter post code LL13 9RY into your Sat Nav. This will take you to the parish church at Isycoed. Go past the church on your left-hand side until you pass Lower Hall Farm again on your left. Just past the farm you will come to a T Junction, turn left and you will immediately see a gate on your right leading into the fields. The key code for the gate is 6070, pass through the first gate, directly through the 2nd gate and follow the path until you reach the 3rd gate. Parking is on the right-hand side, just before the 3rd gate. DO NOT DRIVE PAST THE 3RD GATE. Access to the river is by walking across the field through the 3rd gate, approximately a 5-minute walk.

Upper and Lower Limits for fishing will be clearly sign posted.

As this is a new venue, we would appreciate any feedback from visiting members, especially photos and information regarding catches.

Carr Mill Dam Update

Dear Members

The Canal and Rivers Trust has recently appointed a Project Manager with reference to the works to be carried out to the Dam. They are looking to carry out investigative work throughout early 2018, including hydro surveys to the lake bed. The exact scope of works is yet to be confirmed, as to the way the works are to be carried out. They have scheduled in November 2018 to start carrying out the works, (whatever this involves), but have advised that the works could slip back another 12 months. Any further updates will be posted throughout the year.

We have arranged with the St Helens Council to carry out some emergency, and preventative work to the trees on the roadside, and overhanging Carr Mill Road. These works will be carried out in January by a fully qualified tree surgeon.

We currently have an application in with St Helens Council to add an additional 10 pegs to the area commonly known as Gallagher’s Field on Carr Mill Dam. We will keep you updated on how this application goes.

Best Wishes
